Meeting was called to order at 8:02 pm at 8 to 8 Cigar in Villa Park, IL. Mention was made about joining the North American Society for Pipe Collectors, or NASPC. This group publishes on a bi-monthly basis The Pipe Collector which is a great magazine filled with articles and stories by pipe smokers and collectors across the country and other places. Members of the organization will be at our upcoming Show. Member Jeff Rice is promoting an interesting Club shirt and is taking orders. They are $19 and are quite neat with the Club logo on the back. See him at the next meeting if you want one. Club president Alan Boyd talked about the UPCA slow smoking contest held on Sunday at the Show in the smoking tent. If you are a Club member and are participating in the contest, see him before the contest starts to take your place with the CPCC team. The Columbus, Ohio pipe show, sponsored by NASPC is being held on August 17 & 18 of this year. Contact them at naspc.org for details. A very impressive meerschaum pipe with the CPCC logo is being offered to Club members for $230.00. It’s a large block of natural, unfinished meerschaum with the Club logo nicely carved on the surface of one side of the block and comes with a meerschaum tamper. It’s packaged in a large box with a brass plate on the top with the Club name and the recipient’s name engraved on it. Let Alan Boyd know if you are interested. If you are coming to the Show and have something to contribute to our silent auction that takes place on Saturday of the Show, please see Hans Hansen early on Saturday morning in the silent auction area of the exhibit hall. All contributions of smoking related items for the auction are greatly appreciated and are critical in supporting our Show. Mention was made of a smoke shop in Waukegan, IL. called The Cuban Experience. The shop is located at 119 N. Genesse St. Search The Cuban Experience for their website. The place looks interesting.
Craig Cobine gave a Show report indicating a Lars Iversson display to be included this year. Also, the Chicago Bowl tobacco blending contest will feature English and Latakia flake tobaccos this year. We are looking for volunteers to provide a couple of hours at the Show to help out with various activities. Please contact Chuck Martin if you can give us a little of your time at the Show. It will be appreciated.
Respectfully submitted,
